 Courses

 Re-Certifications

Re-Certifications are for Narcotic, Explosive, and Dual Purpose.

Note: CERTIFICATION IS GOOD FOR ONE YEAR. ALSO WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT ALL OFFICERS THAT ARE ATTEMPTING OUR CERTIFICATION TRIALS SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED A BASIC HANDLER'S COURSE.


Narcotic

Areas of Certification will be vehicles, buildings, and open area. There will be total of 20 aids.

  • You must locate 85% of training aids.
  • No more than 10% of responses can be incorrect.
  • At least 2 articles to test for accurate odor discrimination will be placed.
  • At least 20 minutes of blank search time will be required (unknown) with no incorrect responses occurring.

Explosive

Areas of certification will be vehicles, buildings, and open areas. There will be a minimum of 2 training aids per odor tested (at 17 odors that are 34 training aids).

  • You must locate 90% of training aids.
  • No more than 10% of responses can be incorrect.
  • At least 5 articles to test for accurate odor discrimination will be placed.
  • At least 20 minutes of blank search time will be required (unknown) with no incorrect responses occurring.

Dual Purpose Narc/Patrol

K-9 Teams will be tested in the Following areas:

  • Obedience
  • Criminal apprehension with bite/no bite situations
  • Successfully complete stand-off or recall on command
  • Release bite on command
  • Searches are in open areas, buildings, handler protection, and gun fire
